David Greenman 64b0940b34 1) SCSI_RESID_VALID was not getting set in xs->flags so even though the
aic7xxx driver was doing the right thing, it was getting ignored by the
upper level scsi code. This may affect tape drives, so I consider this
a critical fix.

2) xs->status was not set to zero during the initialization of a command.
Although I don't think this should be the client's (ie the driver's)
responsibility, it seems that it currently is, so it needs to be cleared.
Without this change, the upper level scsi code will attempt to interpret
the sense information on every command complete (since xs->status is
usually left at 2, "check sense"). This gives a slight performance
increase, as well as stops fooling /sbin/scsi into thinking there was
an error on the command.

3) Document that we support the aic7850 controllers in the aic7870.c
header. Aic7870.c should probably become aic78xx.c sometime down the
road.

David Greenman 7f7d3a6052 Backed out one part of rev 1.13. In this one case, two references to the
vnode are gained, but only one reference to the object is gained. The
object reference is (correctly) lost by the nfsrv_vrele() at the exit
point of the nfsrv_link function.
The bug is easily seen by doing a standard "link" operation to a 2.0.5
server (ln foo bar). The system will immediately panic with "object
deallocated too many times".
This fixes the panic reported today by [email protected].

David Greenman 5898dfb90a Fixed a bug that would cause a hang or panic if an object clean operation
happend while the file vnode was locked by another process. This happens
because the call to vget() wasn't checked for failure so the clean
operation would happen without the lock and then the corresponding vput()
would release the lock it didn't have and give up a vnode reference it
didn't have (which could result in an in-use vnode being freed). The
problem would only be seen during an msync() of the mapped file or
when the file fell off the object cache (although this latter case is
unlikely because the file's object would have to be OBJ_WRITEABLE, and
thus shouldn't be on the object cache list).

David Greenman 160b18f411 Fixes from Justin:
1) Fixes tagged queuing for a large number of drives (Seagate, Fujitsu and
Quantum Grand Prix drives have been tested successfully). The core of
the patch is to setup an I_T_L nexus (initiator_target_lun) instead
of an I_T_L_T (initiator_target_tun_tag) nexus for all request sense
messages. It seems that these drives attempt to hold off tagged requests
until the sense is retrieve, causeing them to return BUSY or QUEUE_FULL
status if you do an I_T_L_T nexus. This patch should only affect those
who use the AHC_TAGENABLE kernel config option.

2) Adds support for the aic7850 motherboard SCSI controller. THe 7850 is
software compatible with the 7870 chip except that it has only 3 SCBs
(ugh) and of course a differnt PCI ID string.

3) Move some common initialization code above the SEQINT switch case in the
interrupt routine to avoid code duplication. Use be consistent and always
use u_char instead of "unsigned char" (I've only done this for this section
   of code).

4) Make debugging printfs uniform and always inform the user of the unit
channel and target of the error if possible. Use sc_print_addr when
possible (we have a sc_link structure) so that we get the actuall device
   name printed.

David Greenman 3ab30975ab The +@netgroup/-@netgroup NIS password overrides can fail in
some cases due to a subtle bug. Specifically, if you override
an NIS user's shell, /usr/bin/login and /usr/bin/su (and probably
other commands) can end up with bogus data for the pw_shell
member of the passwd structure *if* the do an endpwent(),
	thereby preventing logins.

This happpens because the text fields in the passwd structure
	(pw_name, pw_passwd, pw_gecos, pw_class, pw_dir and pw_shell)
are returned to the calling program as pointers to dycamically
allocated buffers, rather than pointers to static buffers as
they should be. Once endpwent() is called, the dynamic buffers
are free()ed, which invalidates the data returned by the
	library functions.

Note: Bill promises a more elegant solution in post-2.0.5R. This fix
	is only a work-around.

I don't remember how to demonstrate bad effects from not doing this.

David Greenman 50238688d2 Don't trash the denode cache entry for the source when renaming a
directory in the newparent case. For directories, the pseudo-inode
number (de_dirclust, de_diroffset) is canonicalized to be
(first cluster in directory, 0), so it doesn't change when directories
are renamed. This was only partly handled by not doing anything for
directories in reinsert().

It is hard to demonstrate bad effects of this bug. You can see an
unnecessary cache miss by tracing msdosfs_hashget(). The cache
entry is usually left on the wrong hash chain so it is very
unlikely to match anything, and bogus cache entries go away in
msdosfs_reclaim().

David Greenman 486744a8cb Don't "remember" where the target directory slot is. The target
slot doesn't move. "Remembering" the target slot was a no-op for
files, but for directories it changed the target slot to slot of
the "." entry in the source directory. Thus rename("a", "b/c")
(where "a" is any directory and "b/c" is an empty directory) was
essentially

	unlink("b/c"); rename("a/.", "a"); unlink("a");

where the middle rename corrupts "a/." and the final unlink detaches
"a" and everything underneath it from the directory tree although
not from the file system.

This file lists hardware, which doesn't do what it should do.
Due to the nature of FreeBSD, we do not have the resources to test all
possible kinds of hardware. We do however every now and then find, buy
or hear about hardware which doesn't work with FreeBSD or in general.
This is that list.
To be added to this list, a piece of hardware has to:
A: not do what it claims.
or
B: not do what common sense would expect it to.
Only if performance claims are wildly of the mark will it be listed here.
All entries must have a date and a mail-address associated with them, to
reflect when and by whom they were added.
For multifunctional devices, please indicate if other parts of the device
work OK, or are untested.
For mutual incompabilities, list both devices.
For SCSI and IDE-devices, list the string seen on boot of FreeBSD, if
possible, and trade name.
Infer format from other entries, Keep sorted by first line.
Thankyou.

This directory contains the "TODO" files for various core team members.
This gives interested parties external to the project some idea as
to just what exactly it is that we're doing over here!
If something on one of these lists catches your eye as something you think
you may be able to render valuable assistance with, please! By all means
send mail to the member owning the list (<name>@FreeBSD.org). Chances are good
they'll more than appreciate hearing from you. By the the same token, however,
please do NOT send "when will this be done?" or "yes! please!" sorts of
messages to the core team. If something is on one of these lists it's
because the team member in question really WANTS to do it and must now simply
wrestle with the demons of time, sleep and hunger in trying to get it
done before the freeze date. If you want to make anything on any of these
lists go faster, offer to help! :-) Thanks!

Update: Sun Apr 9, 1995
Due: 2.2, maybe 2.1
Prio: High
Task: Implement full VOP_GETPAGE/VOP_PUTPAGE interface
The current vnode pager violates the vfs layering. Prototype mods have
already been implemented. Since the VM system and VFS systems are
central to the reliable operation of the system, and other filesystems will
be worked on by 2.1, this change will be added to 2.1 only if it is very
smooth to integrate. It will probably be placed into -current immediately
after 2.1 release, before which I will have tested the code. The good side
of the 2.1 or pre 2.1 implementation is that it currently has no known
negative side-effects and is about as CPU efficient as it can get.
Update: Sun Apr 9, 1995
Due: 2.2
Prio: Medium
Task: Implement proper page fault handling of non-page aligned (offset 1k
or other) binary formats.
The task says it all. Currently, some of the non-native executable loaders
have work-arounds for this.
Update: Sun Apr 9, 1995
Due: 2.2
Prio: Medium
Task: Change the object page list into a tree representation.
Since we now have a properly working merged-VM buffer cache mechanism, it
is likely that more file modifications will be done by the mmap mechanism.
Unfortunately, some of the VM data structures inherited from MACH are not
very efficient at handling this kind of output. We will implement a much
more efficient method of handling the flushing of modified pages. This
is a very basic and simple change, and will have the added benefit of
improving the efficiency of ordered traversal of pages in objects in general.
Update: Sun Apr 9, 1995
Due: 2.2, maybe 2.1
Prio: Medium
Task: Allow simple paging to files, and turning off such paging
We currently can page to files through the vn device. This is a bit
of hackery -- and there is no way to turn off paging to such a file. If
there is enough swap space, it should be easy to turn off paging to either
an explicit swap file or paging to/from any physical device, and force
the swap/page-ins.

libftp doesn't handle passive ftp connections, making it useless

Prio: High
Task: Fix the linker to enforce command line order linking when mixing
static/shared libraries.
The state of affairs of the linker when mixing static and shared
libraries is non-intuitive. A program can have completely different
runtime behavior dependant on if it compiled shared/static, which is
bogus IMHO. This 'feature' crops up in many unrelated areas of FreeBSD
and needs to be resolved correctly. Unfortunately, it may require a
complete re-write of some of the underlying functions in both ld and
ld.so.

.Sh NAME
.Nm chflags
.Nd change file flags
.Sh SYNOPSIS
.Nm chflags
.Oo
.Fl R
.Op Fl H | Fl L | Fl P
.Oc
.Ar flags
.Ar file ...
.Sh DESCRIPTION
The
.Nm chflags
utility modifies the file flags of the listed files
as specified by the
.Ar flags
operand.
.Pp
The options are as follows:
.Bl -tag -width Ds
.It Fl H
If the
.Fl R
option is specified, symbolic links on the command line are followed.
(Symbolic links encountered in the tree traversal are not followed.)
.It Fl L
If the
.Fl R
option is specified, all symbolic links are followed.
.It Fl P
If the
.Fl R
option is specified, no symbolic links are followed.
.It Fl R
Change the file flags for the file hierarchies rooted
in the files instead of just the files themselves.
.El
.Pp
Flags are a comma separated list of keywords.
The following keywords are currently defined:
.Bd -literal -offset indent compact
arch set the archived flag (super-user only)
dump set the dump flag
sappnd set the system append-only flag (super-user only)
schg set the system immutable flag (super-user only)
uappnd set the user append-only flag (owner or super-user only)
uchg set the user immutable flag (owner or super-user only)
archived, sappend, schange, simmutable, uappend, uchange, uimmutable
aliases for the above
.Ed
.Pp
Putting the letters
.Dq no
before an option causes the flag to be turned off.
For example:
.Bd -literal -offset indent compact
nodump the file should never be dumped
.Ed
.Pp
Symbolic links do not have flags, so unless the
.Fl H
or
.Fl L
option is set,
.Nm chflags
on a symbolic link always succeeds and has no effect.
The
.Fl H ,
.Fl L
and
.Fl P
options are ignored unless the
.Fl R
option is specified.
In addition, these options override each other and the
command's actions are determined by the last one specified.
.Pp
The
.Nm chflags
utility exits 0 on success, and >0 if an error occurs.
