amdgpu_gem_object_close() detaches the user queue eviction fence from
the BO before it checks bo_va->ref_count, so closing any handle of a BO
removes the fence, even when the file still has another handle to the
BO and the bo_va with its GPU mappings stays. The BO can then be evicted
without suspending the user queues of the file, which keep accessing it
through mappings that are only marked for update.
Seen on navi31 with a SDMA user queue: a BO opened twice in the same
file (GEM_FLINK + GEM_OPEN) loses its eviction fence when the second
handle is closed (traced attach/detach of the fence):
attach bo=ffff8c78a6c84c00
GEM_CLOSE handle=7
detach bo=ffff8c78a6c84c00
while handle 6 and the mapping are still in use.
Only detach the fence when the last reference to the bo_va goes away,
matching amdgpu_gem_object_open(), which attaches it only when the
bo_va is created. With this the fence stays until the file is closed.

The uapi documents drm_amdgpu_gem_list_handles_entry.alignment as
"physical start_addr alignment in bytes", and GEM_OP
GET_GEM_CREATE_INFO returns the same value in bytes, but
GEM_LIST_HANDLES returns tbo.page_alignment, which is in pages. For a BO
created with a 64 KiB alignment on navi31:
GET_GEM_CREATE_INFO: alignment=65536
GEM_LIST_HANDLES: alignment=16

amdgpu_cs_parser_bos() allocates an HMM range for every userptr entry of
the BO list and looks up the user pages. Those ranges are only freed when
amdgpu_cs_parser_bos() itself fails or when amdgpu_cs_submit() checks
them under the notifier lock. If amdgpu_cs_patch_jobs(),
amdgpu_cs_vm_handling(), amdgpu_cs_sync_rings() or the early part of
amdgpu_cs_submit() fails, nothing frees them: neither
amdgpu_cs_parser_fini() nor amdgpu_bo_list_free() touch e->range.
Each such CS then leaks the range, its hmm_pfns array (8 bytes per page
of the userptr BO) and the BO reference the range holds. An IB on a ring
that patches the CS in place (e.g. VCN) with an unmapped va_start fails
in amdgpu_cs_patch_ibs() and takes this path.
Free the ranges on those error paths. Ranges amdgpu_cs_submit() already
dropped are NULL, so freeing them again is a no-op.

amdgpu_debugfs_gpr_read() drops its runtime PM reference right after
reading the wave registers. When copying them to userspace fails, it
jumps to the err label, which drops the reference a second time. A read

holds (power/runtime_usage goes from 1 to 0) or underflows the count:

amdgpu_ring_set_fence_errors_and_reemit() and
amdgpu_ring_backup_unprocessed_commands() masked last_seq and sync_seq to
fence-array indices before the loop, then walked a do/while until the two
indices met. When hardware completed every command before the driver
signalled the fences, last_seq == sync_seq, but the masked-index do/while
could not tell that empty interval from a full table and walked the whole
fence array, backing up and replaying already-completed commands.
Read the raw sequence numbers, return early through amdgpu_fence_process()

amdgpu_ring_backup_unprocessed_commands() is also used to preserve a
ring that carries no guilty command - for example a collateral kernel
gfx ring that shares the faulting pipe during a gfx user-queue pipe
reset. Such a ring is backed up with a NULL guilty_fence and all of its
unprocessed commands must be saved so they can be replayed after the
reset rebuilds the ring's MQD.
The early-return that skips an already-seen guilty fence compared
"ring->guilty_fence == guilty_fence", which is also true when both are
NULL. A non-guilty save therefore hit the early return and left
ring_backup_entries_to_copy at 0, so the pending commands were dropped
when the ring was rebuilt.
Guard the early return with a non-NULL guilty_fence so a NULL fence

On a GPU reset amdgpu_vm_bo_reset_state_machine() moves individual.idle

On gfx12, when more queues are ready than there are HQD slots
(oversubscription), MES keeps queues unmapped and maps a queue to an HQD
on demand when its doorbell rings; a queue is only refetched once its
per-queue work_done is cleared.
Historically oversubscription was handled via the aggregated doorbell,
but that is a shared level-wide signal: MES cannot tell which queue rang
and never clears a queue's work_done, so it relies on the coarse
oversubscription timer to rescan. gfx12 therefore drives GFX/compute
through the per-queue unmapped-doorbell path instead (the aggregated
doorbell now only serves SDMA), which can pinpoint the ringing queue and
lets MES stay idle otherwise.
But with unmapped-doorbell mode 1 (basic) a ring only sets a coarse
level-wide ready flag and does not read the per-queue bitmap or clear the
ringing queue's work_done. A queue still marked done from a prior dispatch
is skipped and its new work is never fetched: the completion never
signals, while queue creation succeeds and no dmesg error is reported.
Switch to mode 2 (basic+): MES reads the per-queue CP_UNMAPPED_QUEUE
bitmap, identifies which queue rang, and clears its work_done so it is
rescheduled promptly. This affects every queue MES schedules on gfx12
(KFD and DRM user queues), which share the one MES instance and this
global setting.
Tested on gfx1201: concurrent multi-queue dispatch that intermittently
stalled under mode 1 now passes on both the KFD and DRM userq paths.
v2: update commit message: describe the oversubscription case, why the
aggregated doorbell is not used for GFX/compute on gfx12, and why
basic+ (not basic) is required.

The SDMA queue counter read was dispatched by GC version: anything newer
than gfx 9.4.2 was routed to the kfd2kgd->hqd_sdma_get_counter hook.
However that hook is only implemented for gfx 9.4.3, so gfx 10.3, gfx 11
and gfx 12 fell into the else branch with a NULL hook and got
-EOPNOTSUPP. This spammed "Failed to read SDMA queue counter" on every
SDMA queue teardown and left sdma_val at 0, so the per-process SDMA
activity accounting stopped working on those ASICs.
Dispatch based on whether the hook is implemented instead of the GC
version, so ASICs without the hook keep using read_sdma_queue_counter()
as before.

amdgpu_gfx_reset_mes_compute() runs amdgpu_mes_suspend(adev, 0) to
quiesce all gangs, resets the offending queue(s), then resumes. The
existing amdgpu_gfx_mes_reset_queue() called amdgpu_ring_reset_helper_end()
right after unmap/restore/map of the reset queue, which re-emits backed-up
commands and rings the doorbell. That doorbell hits a still-suspended CP:
on the subsequent resume the queue partially wedges -- the first new IB
after the reset may execute but later submissions stall, which surfaces
as repeated timeouts on the same ring under concurrent workloads.
Split out amdgpu_gfx_mes_reset_queue_start() (backup + MES reset +
unmap/restore/map only) and defer helper_end. amdgpu_gfx_reset_mes_compute()
collects the (ring, fence) pair for every queue it resets and runs
helper_end on each after amdgpu_mes_resume(), so the re-emit doorbells
land on a running CP. amdgpu_gfx_reset_mes_kcq() now reports the matched
ring/fence back to the caller for the same reason.

Fix a potential deadlock caused by inconsistent spinlock usage
between interrupt and process contexts in the userq fence driver.
The issue occurs when amdgpu_userq_fence_driver_process() is called
from both:
- Interrupt context: gfx_v11_0_eop_irq() -> amdgpu_userq_fence_driver_process()
- Process context: amdgpu_eviction_fence_suspend_worker() ->
amdgpu_userq_fence_driver_force_completion() -> amdgpu_userq_fence_driver_process()
In interrupt context, the spinlock was acquired without disabling
interrupts, leaving it in {IN-HARDIRQ-W} state. When the same lock
is acquired in process context, the kernel detects inconsistent
locking since the process context acquisition would enable interrupts
while holding a lock previously acquired in interrupt context.

This patch adds robust reset handling for user queues (userq) to improve
recovery from queue failures. The key components include:
1. Queue detection and reset logic:
- amdgpu_userq_detect_and_reset_queues() identifies failed queues
- Per-IP detect_and_reset callbacks for targeted recovery
- Falls back to full GPU reset when needed
2. Reset infrastructure:
- Adds userq_reset_work workqueue for async reset handling
- Implements pre/post reset handlers for queue state management
- Integrates with existing GPU reset framework
3. Error handling improvements:
- Enhanced state tracking with HUNG state
- Automatic reset triggering on critical failures
- VRAM loss handling during recovery
4. Integration points:
- Added to device init/reset paths
- Called during queue destroy, suspend, and isolation events
- Handles both individual queue and full GPU resets
The reset functionality works with both gfx/compute and sdma queues,
providing better resilience against queue failures while minimizing
disruption to unaffected queues.

This commit refactors the AMDGPU userqueue management subsystem to replace
IDR (ID Allocation) with XArray for improved performance, scalability, and
maintainability. The changes address several issues with the previous IDR
implementation and provide better locking semantics.
Key changes:
1. **Global XArray Introduction**:
- Added `userq_doorbell_xa` to `struct amdgpu_device` for global queue tracking
- Uses doorbell_index as key for efficient global lookup
- Replaces the previous `userq_mgr_list` linked list approach
2. **Per-process XArray Conversion**:
- Replaced `userq_idr` with `userq_mgr_xa` in `struct amdgpu_userq_mgr`
- Maintains per-process queue tracking with queue_id as key
- Uses XA_FLAGS_ALLOC for automatic ID allocation
3. **Locking Improvements**:
- Removed global `userq_mutex` from `struct amdgpu_device`
- Replaced with fine-grained XArray locking using XArray's internal spinlocks
4. **Runtime Idle Check Optimization**:
- Updated `amdgpu_runtime_idle_check_userq()` to use xa_empty
5. **Queue Management Functions**:
- Converted all IDR operations to equivalent XArray functions:
- `idr_alloc()` → `xa_alloc()`
- `idr_find()` → `xa_load()`
- `idr_remove()` → `xa_erase()`
- `idr_for_each()` → `xa_for_each()`
Benefits:
- **Performance**: XArray provides better scalability for large numbers of queues
- **Memory Efficiency**: Reduced memory overhead compared to IDR
- **Thread Safety**: Improved locking semantics with XArray's internal spinlocks
v2: rename userq_global_xa/userq_xa to userq_doorbell_xa/userq_mgr_xa

The `ttm_resource_manager_usage()` function currently assumes `man->bdev` is non-NULL when accessing `man->bdev->lru_lock`.
However, in scenarios where the resource manager is not fully initialized (e.g., APU platforms that lack dedicated VRAM, or incomplete manager setup),
`man->bdev` may remain NULL. This leads to a NULL pointer dereference when attempting to acquire the `lru_lock`, triggering kernel OOPS.
Fix this by adding an explicit safety check for `man->bdev` before accessing its members:
- Use `WARN_ON_ONCE(!man->bdev)` to emit a one-time warning (a soft assertion) when `man->bdev` is NULL. This helps catch invalid usage patterns during debugging without breaking production workflows.
- Return 0 immediately if `man->bdev` is NULL, as a non-initialized manager cannot have valid resource usage to report.

Previously, APU platforms (and other scenarios with uninitialized VRAM managers)
triggered a NULL pointer dereference in `ttm_resource_manager_usage()`. The root
cause is not that the `struct ttm_resource_manager *man` pointer itself is NULL,
but that `man->bdev` (the backing device pointer within the manager) remains
uninitialized (NULL) on APUs—since APUs lack dedicated VRAM and do not fully
set up VRAM manager structures. When `ttm_resource_manager_usage()` attempts to
acquire `man->bdev->lru_lock`, it dereferences the NULL `man->bdev`, leading to
a kernel OOPS.
1. **amdgpu_cs.c**: Extend the existing bandwidth control check in
`amdgpu_cs_get_threshold_for_moves()` to include a check for
`ttm_resource_manager_used()`. If the manager is not used (uninitialized
`bdev`), return 0 for migration thresholds immediately—skipping VRAM-specific
logic that would trigger the NULL dereference.
2. **amdgpu_kms.c**: Update the `AMDGPU_INFO_VRAM_USAGE` ioctl and memory info
reporting to use a conditional: if the manager is used, return the real VRAM
usage; otherwise, return 0. This avoids accessing `man->bdev` when it is
NULL.
3. **amdgpu_virt.c**: Modify the vf2pf (virtual function to physical function)
data write path. Use `ttm_resource_manager_used()` to check validity: if the
manager is usable, calculate `fb_usage` from VRAM usage; otherwise, set
`fb_usage` to 0 (APUs have no discrete framebuffer to report).
This approach is more robust than APU-specific checks because it:
- Works for all scenarios where the VRAM manager is uninitialized (not just APUs),
- Aligns with TTM's design by using its native helper function,
- Preserves correct behavior for discrete GPUs (which have fully initialized
`man->bdev` and pass the `ttm_resource_manager_used()` check).

This commit fixes a potential race condition in the userqueue fence
signaling mechanism by replacing dma_fence_is_signaled_locked() with
dma_fence_is_signaled().
The issue occurred because:
1. dma_fence_is_signaled_locked() should only be used when holding
the fence's individual lock, not just the fence list lock
2. Using the locked variant without the proper fence lock could lead
to double-signaling scenarios:
- Hardware completion signals the fence
- Software path also tries to signal the same fence
By using dma_fence_is_signaled() instead, we properly handle the
locking hierarchy and avoid the race condition while still maintaining
the necessary synchronization through the fence_list_lock.
