Ian Rogers ab24487aaa perf evlist: Add reference count checking
Now the evlist is reference counted, add reference count checking so
that gets and puts are paired and easy to debug. Reference count
checking is documented here:
https://perfwiki.github.io/main/reference-count-checking/

This large patch is adding accessors to evlist functions and switching
to their use. There was some minor renaming as evlist__mmap is now an
accessor to the mmap variable, and the original evlist__mmap is
renamed to evlist__do_mmap.

Ian Rogers 3c45ce5ae3 perf evlist: Add reference count
This a no-op for most of the perf tool. The reference count is set to
1 at allocation, the put will see the 1, decrement it and perform the
delete.

The purpose for adding the reference count is for the python code. Prior
to this change the python code would clone evlists, but this has issues
if events are opened, etc.

This change adds a reference count for the evlists and a later change
will add it to evsels. The combination is needed for the python code to
operate correctly (not hit asserts in the evsel clone), but the changes
are broken apart for the sake of smaller patches.

Ian Rogers 675073ddf8 perf evlist: Try to avoid computing evsel from sample
As struct perf_sample now directly contains its own resolved evsel pointer,
passing the evsel separately is redundant and clutters the interface.

Remove the redundant evsel parameter from evlist-specific handlers and
structures, ensuring the tool always directly accesses the evsel bound to the
sample. This simplifies the API signatures and eliminates the risk of passing
an inconsistent evsel.

Test that disabling rdpmc support via /sys/bus/event_source/cpu*/rdpmc
disables reading in the mmap (libperf read support will fallback to
using a system call).
Test all hybrid PMUs support rdpmc.
Ensure hybrid PMUs use the correct CPU to rdpmc the correct
event. Previously the test would open cycles or instructions with no
extended type then rdpmc it on whatever CPU. This could fail/skip due
to which CPU the test was scheduled upon.

Ian Rogers dc6d2bc2d8 perf sample: Make user_regs and intr_regs optional
The struct dump_regs contains 512 bytes of cache_regs, meaning the two
values in perf_sample contribute 1088 bytes of its total 1384 bytes
size. Initializing this much memory has a cost reported by Tavian
Barnes <[email protected]> as about 2.5% when running `perf
script --itrace=i0`:
https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/d841b97b3ad2ca8bcab07e4293375fb7c32dfce7.1736618095.git.tavianator@tavianator.com/

Adrian Hunter <[email protected]> replied that the zero
initialization was necessary and couldn't simply be removed.

This patch aims to strike a middle ground of still zeroing the
perf_sample, but removing 79% of its size by make user_regs and
intr_regs optional pointers to zalloc-ed memory. To support the
allocation accessors are created for user_regs and intr_regs. To
support correct cleanup perf_sample__init and perf_sample__exit
functions are created and added throughout the code base.

Ian Rogers 6d18804b96 perf cpumap: Give CPUs their own type
A common problem is confusing CPU map indices with the CPU, by wrapping
the CPU with a struct then this is avoided. This approach is similar to
atomic_t.

Committer notes:

To make it build with BUILD_BPF_SKEL=1 these files needed the
conversions to 'struct perf_cpu' usage:

  tools/perf/util/bpf_counter.c
  tools/perf/util/bpf_counter_cgroup.c
  tools/perf/util/bpf_ftrace.c

Also perf_env__get_cpu() was removed back in "perf cpumap: Switch
cpu_map__build_map to cpu function".

Additionally these needed to be fixed for the ARM builds to complete:

  tools/perf/arch/arm/util/cs-etm.c
  tools/perf/arch/arm64/util/pmu.c

Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo e0fcfb086f perf evlist: Adopt backwards ring buffer state enum
As this isn't used at all in mmap.h but in evlist.h, so to cut down the
header dependency tree, move it to where it is used.

Also add mmap.h to the places using it but previously getting it
indirectly via evlist.h.

Add missing pthread.h to evlist.h, as it has a pthread_t struct member
and was getting the header via mmap.h.

Noticed while processing a Jiri's libperf batch touching mmap.h, where
almost everything gets rebuilt because evlist.h is so popular, so cut
down't this rebuild the world party.

  + .read_format = read_format,
  + },

  [perfbuilder@a70e4eeb5549 /]$ gcc --version |& head -1
  gcc (GCC) 4.4.7

Also we don't need to include perf_event.h in
tools/perf/lib/include/perf/evsel.h, forward declaring 'struct
perf_event_attr' is enough. And this even fixes the build in some
systems where things are used somewhere down the include path from
perf_event.h without defining __always_inline.
