Mike Rapoport (Microsoft) c7a2a36182 x86/bpf: Make arch_bpf_trampoline_size allocate from EXECMEM_MODULE_DATA
Jiri Olsa reports slowdown of tracing_multi benchmark that allocates huge
number of trampolines [1].

The slowdown caused by extra protection changes in execmem_alloc_rw() and
execmem_free().

With ROX caches enabled, all execmem allocations except EXECMEM_MODULE_DATA
are ROX after the allocation. execmem_alloc_rw() temporarily sets them to
W+NX and execmem_free() resets them back to ROX.

The only user of bpf_jit_alloc_exec_rw() is x86::arch_bpf_trampoline_size()
that only needs a temporary writable buffer in the modules address space.

On x86 executable memory and module data are constrained to the same
address range, so x86::arch_bpf_trampoline_size() can directly use
execmem_alloc(EXECMEM_MODULE_DATA)

Replace the call to bpf_jit_alloc_exec_rw() with a call to
execmem_alloc(EXECMEM_MODULE_DATA) in x86::arch_bpf_trampoline_size() and
drop bpf_jit_alloc_exec_rw() helper.

Xu Kuohai 7c3e54cb82 bpf: Eliminate dup/restore of insn_aux_data
The dup/restore of insn_aux_data was introduced to resolve the
inconsistency between insnsi and insn_aux_data arrays, which occurs
on the failure path where insnsi was rolled back to the original
state before constants blinding, while insn_aux_data was not.

After JIT failure, there is only one user, bpf_clear_insn_aux_data(),
that requires insnsi and insn_aux_data to be synchronized. It accesses
both insnsi and insn_aux_data using the same array size and index.

However, the access to insnsi in bpf_clear_insn_aux_data() is not
necessary. It is checked to skip the second slot of an ldimm64 instruction,
whose jt is never set and can be absorbed into the jt check itself.

So remove the access to insnsi from bpf_clear_insn_aux_data(), and add a
specific length field for insn_aux_data to allow it to have a different
length from the insnsi array. Then remove dup/restore of insn_aux_data.

Daniel Borkmann 41c5dbb4be bpf: Derive the atomic load register in one place
check_atomic_rmw() open codes the mapping from a BPF_ATOMIC to the register
it reads the old value into, the BPF_STX case of insn_def_regno() open codes
the very same mapping a second time, the const folding and the liveness
transfer functions a third and a fourth time, and BPF JITs need it as well
to know which register a faulting BPF_PROBE_ATOMIC has to clear.

Add a small helper so that all of them can share it. No functional change.
The BPF_LOAD_ACQ case is there for the JITs, which do walk all instruction
classes. const_reg_xfer() loses its explicit BPF_ATOMIC mode test since the
helper checks class and mode itself; the BPF_PROBE_ATOMIC it additionally
accepts cannot be seen there as it is only set from bpf_do_misc_fixups(),
that is, after const folding has run. arg_track_xfer() keeps its mode test
since that also guards the stack clearing next to it.

Tejun Heo 252d367163 bpf: Support __arena and __arena__nullable kfunc argument suffixes
Passing an arena pointer to a kfunc takes two steps today. There is no
arena pointer argument type, so the pointer crosses the boundary as a
bare scalar, and the kfunc then offsets it by the arena base and casts
it before it can touch the memory. Every such kfunc open-codes the same
translation.

Add the __arena and __arena__nullable argument suffixes to make this more
convenient. The kfunc declares the parameter by its real pointer type
and dereferences it directly, with the JIT rebasing the value at the
call site, rN = kern_vm_start + (u32)rN. No bounds check is needed: the
u32 offset stays within the guard-padded arena kernel mapping, and a
fault on an unpopulated page recovers through the per-arena scratch
page. A suffixed argument accepts a PTR_TO_ARENA or scalar register,
matching global subprog arena arguments.

__arena rebases unconditionally, so the kfunc never sees NULL and a
value with zero in the low 32 bits arrives as the arena base.
__arena__nullable preserves NULL for optional arguments by skipping the
rebase when the truncated value, arena offset 0, is zero. Keeping the
plain form NULL-free saves the NULL test on every call.

The double separator makes the annotations composable:
__arena__nullable also ends in __nullable and naturally follows the
common nullable argument path. Plain __arena follows that path too for
verifier type checking because both forms accept a constant zero; the
function-model flag still determines whether the JIT preserves NULL or
rebases it to the arena base.

This patch adds the verifier side: the suffixes are recognized in
check_kfunc_args() and distilled into argument flags in the function
model stored in the kfunc descriptor. JITs retrieve the model while
emitting the call, avoiding per-call state in insn_aux_data.

JITs declare support with bpf_jit_supports_arena_args() and verification
fails with -ENOTSUPP elsewhere.

Daniel Borkmann e2577cd620 bpf, riscv: Add and use bpf_atomic_is_load_acq() helper
A load-acquire is the only BPF_STX class instruction that reads from
src_reg into dst_reg, that is, it has the operand roles of a BPF_LDX.
JIT code which tells loads from stores apart by instruction class alone
has to special case it, for example when deciding which register holds
the faulting address and which one to clear from an exception handler.

riscv64 already does so, open coded as a bare insn->imm test. Add a
bpf_atomic_is_load_acq() helper and convert riscv64 over to it, so that
the x86-64 and arm64 JITs can use the same helper in subsequent patches.

Unlike bpf_atomic_is_load_store(), which presumes that its argument is
already known to be a BPF_ATOMIC instruction, the new helper is called
from code which still sees all instruction classes, so it checks class
and mode itself.

Also, move bpf_atomic_is_load_store() to filter.h next to BPF_ATOMIC_OP,
so that both helpers stay together. No functional change intended.

Mike Rapoport (Microsoft) 5bf02dbf39 bpf, x86: Make sure allocation in arch_bpf_trampoline_size() is writable
arch_bpf_trampoline_size() allocates a buffer to get actual size required
for a trampoline.

This buffer must be in the module address space because
__arch_prepare_bpf_trampoline() calculates rel32 offsets relatively to
that buffer.

In preparation for enabling ROX mode for EXECMEM_BPF make sure that the
allocated memory is writable.

Add bpf_jit_alloc_exec_rw() wrapper for execmem_alloc_rw() and use it for
buffer allocation in arch_bpf_trampoline_size().

Pawan Gupta 0bb99f2cfa bpf: Restrict JIT predictor flush to cBPF
Currently predictor flush on memory reuse is done for all BPF JIT
allocations, but only cBPF programs can be loaded by an unprivileged user.
eBPF is privileged by default, and flushing predictors for all CPUs on
every eBPF reuse penalizes the common case for no security benefit.

eBPF allocations can be frequent on busy systems, only flush predictors
for cBPF programs. Trampoline and dispatcher allocations also skip the
flush as they are eBPF-only.

Pawan Gupta 96cce16e26 bpf: Support for hardening against JIT spraying
The BPF JIT allocator packs many small programs into larger executable
allocations and reuses space within those allocations as programs are
loaded and freed. When fresh code is written into space that a previous
program occupied, an indirect jump into the new program can reuse a branch
prediction left behind by the old one.

Flush the indirect branch predictors before reusing JIT memory so that
indirect jumps into a newly written program don't reuse predictions from an
old program that occupied the same space.

Introduce bpf_arch_pred_flush_enabled static key and bpf_arch_pred_flush
static call for flushing the branch predictors on JIT memory reuse.
Architectures that need a flush, can update it to a predictor flush
function. By default, its a NOP and does not emit any CALL.

Allocations larger than a pack are not covered by this flush. That is safe
because cBPF programs (the unprivileged attack surface) are bounded well
below a pack size. Issue a warning if this assumption is ever violated
while the flush is active.

Add three static inline helper functions — is_stack_arg_ldx(),
is_stack_arg_st(), and is_stack_arg_stx() — that identify r11-based
(BPF_REG_PARAMS) instructions used for stack argument passing. These
helpers encapsulate the detailed encoding requirements (operand size,
register, offset alignment and sign) and hide raw BPF_REG_PARAMS usage
from the verifier, making call sites more readable and explicit.

A later patch ("bpf: Enable r11 based insns") will wire these helpers
into the verifier. Until then, check_and_resolve_insns() rejects any

Yazhou Tang 58a8f3e250 bpf: Fix s16 truncation for large bpf-to-bpf call offsets
Currently, the BPF instruction set allows bpf-to-bpf calls (or internal
calls, pseudo calls) to use a 32-bit imm field to represent the relative
jump offset.

However, when JIT is disabled or falls back to the interpreter, the
verifier invokes bpf_patch_call_args() to rewrite the call instruction.
In this function, the 32-bit imm is downcast to s16 and stored in the off
field.

    void bpf_patch_call_args(struct bpf_insn *insn, u32 stack_depth)
    {
        stack_depth = max_t(u32, stack_depth, 1);
        insn->off = (s16) insn->imm;
        insn->imm = interpreters_args[(round_up(stack_depth, 32) / 32) - 1] -
            __bpf_call_base_args;
        insn->code = BPF_JMP | BPF_CALL_ARGS;
    }

If the original imm exceeds the s16 range (i.e., a jump offset greater
than 32767 instructions), this downcast silently truncates the offset,
resulting in an incorrect call target.

Fix this by:
1. In bpf_patch_call_args(), keeping the imm field unchanged and using the
   off field to store the index of the interpreter function.
2. In ___bpf_prog_run() for the JMP_CALL_ARGS case, retrieving the
   interpreter function pointer from the interpreters_args array using the
   off field as the index, and passing the original imm to calculate the
   last argument of the interpreter function.

After these changes, the truncation issue is resolved, and __bpf_call_base_args
is also no longer needed and can be removed, which makes the code cleaner.

Performance: In ___bpf_prog_run() for the JMP_CALL_ARGS case, changing the
retrieval of the interpreter function pointer from pointer addition to
direct array indexing improves performance. The possible reason is that the
latter has better instruction-level parallelism. See the v5 discussion [1]
for more details.

[1] https://lore.kernel.org/bpf/[email protected]/

To avoid requiring bpftool changes, keep the new imm/off encoding internal
and restore the legacy xlated dump layout in bpf_insn_prepare_dump().
For bpf-to-bpf call offsets that do not fit in s16, export off as 0 instead
of a truncated and misleading value.

Yonghong Song 246ad6e5ee bpf: Introduce bpf register BPF_REG_PARAMS
Introduce BPF_REG_PARAMS as a dedicated BPF register for stack
argument accesses. It occupies the BPF register number 11 (R11),
which is used as the base pointer for the stack argument area,
keeping it separate from the R10-based (BPF_REG_FP) program stack.

The kernel-internal hidden register BPF_REG_AX previously occupied

BPF_REG_AX moves to slot 12 and MAX_BPF_EXT_REG increases

Xu Kuohai d9ef13f727 bpf: Pass bpf_verifier_env to JIT
Pass bpf_verifier_env to bpf_int_jit_compile(). The follow-up patch will
use env->insn_aux_data in the JIT stage to detect indirect jump targets.

Since bpf_prog_select_runtime() can be called by cbpf and lib/test_bpf.c
code without verifier, introduce helper __bpf_prog_select_runtime()
to accept the env parameter.

Remove the call to bpf_prog_select_runtime() in bpf_prog_load(), and
switch to call __bpf_prog_select_runtime() in the verifier, with env
variable passed. The original bpf_prog_select_runtime() is preserved for
cbpf and lib/test_bpf.c, where env is NULL.

Now all constants blinding calls are moved into the verifier, except
the cbpf and lib/test_bpf.c cases. The instructions arrays are adjusted
by bpf_patch_insn_data() function for normal cases, so there is no need
to call adjust_insn_arrays() in bpf_jit_blind_constants(). Remove it.

Xu Kuohai d3e945223e bpf: Move constants blinding out of arch-specific JITs
During the JIT stage, constants blinding rewrites instructions but only
rewrites the private instruction copy of the JITed subprog, leaving the
global env->prog->insnsi and env->insn_aux_data untouched. This causes a
mismatch between subprog instructions and the global state, making it
difficult to use the global data in the JIT.

To avoid this mismatch, and given that all arch-specific JITs already
support constants blinding, move it to the generic verifier code, and
switch to rewrite the global env->prog->insnsi with the global states
adjusted, as other rewrites in the verifier do.

This removes the constants blinding calls in each JIT, which are largely
duplicated code across architectures.

Since constants blinding is only required for JIT, and there are two
JIT entry functions, jit_subprogs() for BPF programs with multiple
subprogs and bpf_prog_select_runtime() for programs with no subprogs,
move the constants blinding invocation into these two functions.

In the verifier path, bpf_patch_insn_data() is used to keep global
verifier auxiliary data in sync with patched instructions. A key
question is whether this global auxiliary data should be restored
on the failure path.

Besides instructions, bpf_patch_insn_data() adjusts:
  - prog->aux->poke_tab
  - env->insn_array_maps
  - env->subprog_info
  - env->insn_aux_data

For prog->aux->poke_tab, it is only used by JIT or only meaningful after
JIT succeeds, so it does not need to be restored on the failure path.

For env->insn_array_maps, when JIT fails, programs using insn arrays
are rejected by bpf_insn_array_ready() due to missing JIT addresses.
Hence, env->insn_array_maps is only meaningful for JIT and does not need
to be restored.

For subprog_info, if jit_subprogs fails and CONFIG_BPF_JIT_ALWAYS_ON
is not enabled, kernel falls back to interpreter. In this case,
env->subprog_info is used to determine subprogram stack depth. So it
must be restored on failure.

For env->insn_aux_data, it is freed by clear_insn_aux_data() at the
end of bpf_check(). Before freeing, clear_insn_aux_data() loops over
env->insn_aux_data to release jump targets recorded in it. The loop
uses env->prog->len as the array length, but this length no longer
matches the actual size of the adjusted env->insn_aux_data array after
constants blinding.

To address it, a simple approach is to keep insn_aux_data as adjusted
after failure, since it will be freed shortly, and record its actual size
for the loop in clear_insn_aux_data(). But since clear_insn_aux_data()
uses the same index to loop over both env->prog->insnsi and env->insn_aux_data,
this approach results in incorrect index for the insnsi array. So an
alternative approach is adopted: clone the original env->insn_aux_data
before blinding and restore it after failure, similar to env->prog.

For classic BPF programs, constants blinding works as before since it
is still invoked from bpf_prog_select_runtime().

Eric Biggers a02327413a bpf: Remove inclusions of crypto/sha1.h
Since commit 603b441623 ("bpf: Update the bpf_prog_calc_tag to use
SHA256") made BPF program tags use SHA-256 instead of SHA-1, the header
<crypto/sha1.h> no longer needs to be included. Remove the relevant
inclusions so that they no longer unnecessarily come up in searches for
which kernel code is still using the obsolete SHA-1 algorithm.

Since net/ipv6/addrconf.c was relying on the transitive inclusion of
<crypto/sha1.h> (for an unrelated purpose) via <linux/filter.h>, make it
include <crypto/sha1.h> explicitly in order to keep that file building.

Leon Hwang 8798902f2b bpf: Add bpf_jit_supports_fsession()
The added fsession does not prevent running on those architectures, that
haven't added fsession support.

For example, try to run fsession tests on arm64:

test_fsession_basic:PASS:fsession_test__open_and_load 0 nsec
test_fsession_basic:PASS:fsession_attach 0 nsec
check_result:FAIL:test_run_opts err unexpected error: -14 (errno 14)

In order to prevent such errors, add bpf_jit_supports_fsession() to guard
those architectures.

Petr Mladek cd6735896d kallsyms/bpf: rename __bpf_address_lookup() to bpf_address_lookup()
bpf_address_lookup() has been used only in kallsyms_lookup_buildid(). It
was supposed to set @modname and @modbuildid when the symbol was in a
module.

But it always just cleared @modname because BPF symbols were never in a
module. And it did not clear @modbuildid because the pointer was not
passed.

The wrapper is no longer needed. Both @modname and @modbuildid are now
always initialized to NULL in kallsyms_lookup_buildid().

Remove the wrapper and rename __bpf_address_lookup() to
bpf_address_lookup() because this variant is used everywhere.

Linus Torvalds 8f7aa3d3c7 Merge tag 'net-next-6.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next
Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski:
 "Core & protocols:

   - Replace busylock at the Tx queuing layer with a lockless list.

     Resulting in a 300% (4x) improvement on heavy TX workloads, sending
     twice the number of packets per second, for half the cpu cycles.

   - Allow constantly busy flows to migrate to a more suitable CPU/NIC
     queue.

     Normally we perform queue re-selection when flow comes out of idle,
     but under extreme circumstances the flows may be constantly busy.

     Add sysctl to allow periodic rehashing even if it'd risk packet
     reordering.

   - Optimize the NAPI skb cache, make it larger, use it in more paths.

   - Attempt returning Tx skbs to the originating CPU (like we already
     did for Rx skbs).

   - Various data structure layout and prefetch optimizations from Eric.

   - Remove ktime_get() from the recvmsg() fast path, ktime_get() is
     sadly quite expensive on recent AMD machines.

   - Extend threaded NAPI polling to allow the kthread busy poll for
     packets.

   - Make MPTCP use Rx backlog processing. This lowers the lock
     pressure, improving the Rx performance.

   - Support memcg accounting of MPTCP socket memory.

   - Allow admin to opt sockets out of global protocol memory accounting
     (using a sysctl or BPF-based policy). The global limits are a poor
     fit for modern container workloads, where limits are imposed using
     cgroups.

   - Improve heuristics for when to kick off AF_UNIX garbage collection.

   - Allow users to control TCP SACK compression, and default to 33% of
     RTT.

   - Add tcp_rcvbuf_low_rtt sysctl to let datacenter users avoid
     unnecessarily aggressive rcvbuf growth and overshot when the
     connection RTT is low.

   - Preserve skb metadata space across skb_push / skb_pull operations.

   - Support for IPIP encapsulation in the nftables flowtable offload.

   - Support appending IP interface information to ICMP messages (RFC
     5837).

   - Support setting max record size in TLS (RFC 8449).

   - Remove taking rtnl_lock from RTM_GETNEIGHTBL and RTM_SETNEIGHTBL.

   - Use a dedicated lock (and RCU) in MPLS, instead of rtnl_lock.

   - Let users configure the number of write buffers in SMC.

   - Add new struct sockaddr_unsized for sockaddr of unknown length,
     from Kees.

   - Some conversions away from the crypto_ahash API, from Eric Biggers.

   - Some preparations for slimming down struct page.

   - YAML Netlink protocol spec for WireGuard.

   - Add a tool on top of YAML Netlink specs/lib for reporting commonly
     computed derived statistics and summarized system state.

  Driver API:

   - Add CAN XL support to the CAN Netlink interface.

   - Add uAPI for reporting PHY Mean Square Error (MSE) diagnostics, as
     defined by the OPEN Alliance's "Advanced diagnostic features for
     100BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet PHYs" specification.

   - Add DPLL phase-adjust-gran pin attribute (and implement it in
     zl3073x).

   - Refactor xfrm_input lock to reduce contention when NIC offloads
     IPsec and performs RSS.

   - Add info to devlink params whether the current setting is the
     default or a user override. Allow resetting back to default.

   - Add standard device stats for PSP crypto offload.

   - Leverage DSA frame broadcast to implement simple HSR frame
     duplication for a lot of switches without dedicated HSR offload.

   - Add uAPI defines for 1.6Tbps link modes.

  Device drivers:

   - Add Motorcomm YT921x gigabit Ethernet switch support.

   - Add MUCSE driver for N500/N210 1GbE NIC series.

   - Convert drivers to support dedicated ops for timestamping control,
     and away from the direct IOCTL handling. While at it support GET
     operations for PHY timestamping.

   - Add (and convert most drivers to) a dedicated ethtool callback for
     reading the Rx ring count.

   - Significant refactoring efforts in the STMMAC driver, which
     supports Synopsys turn-key MAC IP integrated into a ton of SoCs.

   - Ethernet high-speed NICs:
      - Broadcom (bnxt):
         - support PPS in/out on all pins
      - Intel (100G, ice, idpf):

Pu Lehui 7dc211c115 bpf: Fix invalid prog->stats access when update_effective_progs fails
Syzkaller triggers an invalid memory access issue following fault
injection in update_effective_progs. The issue can be described as
follows:

__cgroup_bpf_detach
  update_effective_progs
    compute_effective_progs
      bpf_prog_array_alloc <-- fault inject
  purge_effective_progs
    /* change to dummy_bpf_prog */
    array->items[index] = &dummy_bpf_prog.prog

---softirq start---
__do_softirq
  ...
    __cgroup_bpf_run_filter_skb
      __bpf_prog_run_save_cb
        bpf_prog_run
          stats = this_cpu_ptr(prog->stats)
          /* invalid memory access */
          flags = u64_stats_update_begin_irqsave(&stats->syncp)
---softirq end---

  static_branch_dec(&cgroup_bpf_enabled_key[atype])

The reason is that fault injection caused update_effective_progs to fail
and then changed the original prog into dummy_bpf_prog.prog in
purge_effective_progs. Then a softirq came, and accessing the members of
dummy_bpf_prog.prog in the softirq triggers invalid mem access.

To fix it, skip updating stats when stats is NULL.

Jakub Sitnicki f38499ff45 bpf: Unclone skb head on bpf_dynptr_write to skb metadata
Currently bpf_dynptr_from_skb_meta() marks the dynptr as read-only when
the skb is cloned, preventing writes to metadata.

Remove this restriction and unclone the skb head on bpf_dynptr_write() to

metadata dynptr consistent with skb dynptr, allowing writes regardless of

Change struct bpf_sock_addr_kern to use sockaddr_unsized for the "uaddr"

The casting in __cgroup_bpf_run_filter_sock_addr() is updated to match the

Additionally rename the "unspec" variable to "storage" to better align

Kumar Kartikeya Dwivedi a91ae3c893 bpf, x86: Add support for signed arena loads
Currently, signed load instructions into arena memory are unsupported.
The compiler is free to generate these, and on GCC-14 we see a
corresponding error when it happens. The hurdle in supporting them is
deciding which unused opcode to use to mark them for the JIT's own
consumption. After much thinking, it appears 0xc0 / BPF_NOSPEC can be
combined with load instructions to identify signed arena loads. Use
this to recognize and JIT them appropriately, and remove the verifier
side limitation on the program if the JIT supports them.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer a6f190630d net: track pfmemalloc drops via SKB_DROP_REASON_PFMEMALLOC
Add a new SKB drop reason (SKB_DROP_REASON_PFMEMALLOC) to track packets
dropped due to memory pressure. In production environments, we've observed
memory exhaustion reported by memory layer stack traces, but these drops
were not properly tracked in the SKB drop reason infrastructure.

While most network code paths now properly report pfmemalloc drops, some
protocol-specific socket implementations still use sk_filter() without
drop reason tracking:
- Bluetooth L2CAP sockets
- CAIF sockets
- IUCV sockets
- Netlink sockets
- SCTP sockets
- Unix domain sockets

These remaining cases represent less common paths and could be converted
in a follow-up patch if needed. The current implementation provides
significantly improved observability into memory pressure events in the
network stack, especially for key protocols like TCP and UDP, helping to
diagnose problems in production environments.

Luis Gerhorst dff883d9e9 bpf, arm64, powerpc: Change nospec to include v1 barrier
This changes the semantics of BPF_NOSPEC (previously a v4-only barrier)
to always emit a speculation barrier that works against both Spectre v1
AND v4. If mitigation is not needed on an architecture, the backend
should set bpf_jit_bypass_spec_v4/v1().

As of now, this commit only has the user-visible implication that unpriv
BPF's performance on PowerPC is reduced. This is the case because we
have to emit additional v1 barrier instructions for BPF_NOSPEC now.

This commit is required for a future commit to allow us to rely on
BPF_NOSPEC for Spectre v1 mitigation. As of this commit, the feature
that nospec acts as a v1 barrier is unused.

Commit f5e81d1117 ("bpf: Introduce BPF nospec instruction for
mitigating Spectre v4") noted that mitigation instructions for v1 and v4
might be different on some archs. While this would potentially offer
improved performance on PowerPC, it was dismissed after the following
considerations:

* Only having one barrier simplifies the verifier and allows us to
  easily rely on v4-induced barriers for reducing the complexity of
  v1-induced speculative path verification.

* For the architectures that implemented BPF_NOSPEC, only PowerPC has
  distinct instructions for v1 and v4. Even there, some insns may be
  shared between the barriers for v1 and v4 (e.g., 'ori 31,31,0' and
  'sync'). If this is still found to impact performance in an
  unacceptable way, BPF_NOSPEC can be split into BPF_NOSPEC_V1 and
  BPF_NOSPEC_V4 later. As an optimization, we can already skip v1/v4
  insns from being emitted for PowerPC with this setup if
  bypass_spec_v1/v4 is set.

Vulnerability-status for BPF_NOSPEC-based Spectre mitigations (v4 as of
this commit, v1 in the future) is therefore:

* x86 (32-bit and 64-bit), ARM64, and PowerPC (64-bit): Mitigated - This
  patch implements BPF_NOSPEC for these architectures. The previous
  v4-only version was supported since commit f5e81d1117 ("bpf:
  Introduce BPF nospec instruction for mitigating Spectre v4") and
  commit b7540d6250 ("powerpc/bpf: Emit stf barrier instruction
  sequences for BPF_NOSPEC").

* LoongArch: Not Vulnerable - Commit a6f6a95f25 ("LoongArch, bpf: Fix
  jit to skip speculation barrier opcode") is the only other past commit
  related to BPF_NOSPEC and indicates that the insn is not required
  there.

* MIPS: Vulnerable (if unprivileged BPF is enabled) -
  Commit a6f6a95f2580 ("LoongArch, bpf: Fix jit to skip speculation
  barrier opcode") indicates that it is not vulnerable, but this
  contradicts the kernel and Debian documentation. Therefore, I assume
  that there exist vulnerable MIPS CPUs (but maybe not from Loongson?).
  In the future, BPF_NOSPEC could be implemented for MIPS based on the
  GCC speculation_barrier [1]. For now, we rely on unprivileged BPF
  being disabled by default.

* Other: Unknown - To the best of my knowledge there is no definitive
  information available that indicates that any other arch is
  vulnerable. They are therefore left untouched (BPF_NOSPEC is not
  implemented, but bypass_spec_v1/v4 is also not set).

I did the following testing to ensure the insn encoding is correct:

* ARM64:
  * 'dsb nsh; isb' was successfully tested with the BPF CI in [2]
  * 'sb' locally using QEMU v7.2.15 -cpu max (emitted sb insn is
    executed for example with './test_progs -t verifier_array_access')

* PowerPC: The following configs were tested locally with ppc64le QEMU
  v8.2 '-machine pseries -cpu POWER9':
  * STF_BARRIER_EIEIO + CONFIG_PPC_BOOK32_64
  * STF_BARRIER_SYNC_ORI (forced on) + CONFIG_PPC_BOOK32_64
  * STF_BARRIER_FALLBACK (forced on) + CONFIG_PPC_BOOK32_64
  * CONFIG_PPC_E500 (forced on) + STF_BARRIER_EIEIO
  * CONFIG_PPC_E500 (forced on) + STF_BARRIER_SYNC_ORI (forced on)
  * CONFIG_PPC_E500 (forced on) + STF_BARRIER_FALLBACK (forced on)
  * CONFIG_PPC_E500 (forced on) + STF_BARRIER_NONE (forced on)
  Most of those cobinations should not occur in practice, but I was not
  able to get an PPC e6500 rootfs (for testing PPC_E500 without forcing
  it on). In any case, this should ensure that there are no unexpected
  conflicts between the insns when combined like this. Individual v1/v4
  barriers were already emitted elsewhere.

Hari's ack is for the PowerPC changes only.

Peilin Ye 880442305a bpf: Introduce load-acquire and store-release instructions
Introduce BPF instructions with load-acquire and store-release
semantics, as discussed in [1]. Define 2 new flags:

  #define BPF_LOAD_ACQ    0x100
  #define BPF_STORE_REL   0x110

A "load-acquire" is a BPF_STX | BPF_ATOMIC instruction with the 'imm'
field set to BPF_LOAD_ACQ (0x100).

Similarly, a "store-release" is a BPF_STX | BPF_ATOMIC instruction with
the 'imm' field set to BPF_STORE_REL (0x110).

Unlike existing atomic read-modify-write operations that only support
BPF_W (32-bit) and BPF_DW (64-bit) size modifiers, load-acquires and
store-releases also support BPF_B (8-bit) and BPF_H (16-bit).  As an
exception, however, 64-bit load-acquires/store-releases are not
supported on 32-bit architectures (to fix a build error reported by the
kernel test robot).

An 8- or 16-bit load-acquire zero-extends the value before writing it to
a 32-bit register, just like ARM64 instruction LDARH and friends.

Similar to existing atomic read-modify-write operations, misaligned
load-acquires/store-releases are not allowed (even if
BPF_F_ANY_ALIGNMENT is set).

As an example, consider the following 64-bit load-acquire BPF
instruction (assuming little-endian):

  db 10 00 00 00 01 00 00  r0 = load_acquire((u64 *)(r1 + 0x0))

  opcode (0xdb): BPF_ATOMIC | BPF_DW | BPF_STX
  imm (0x00000100): BPF_LOAD_ACQ

Kumar Kartikeya Dwivedi e723608bf4 bpf: Add verifier support for timed may_goto
Implement support in the verifier for replacing may_goto implementation
from a counter-based approach to one which samples time on the local CPU
to have a bigger loop bound.

We implement it by maintaining 16-bytes per-stack frame, and using 8
bytes for maintaining the count for amortizing time sampling, and 8
bytes for the starting timestamp. To minimize overhead, we need to avoid
spilling and filling of registers around this sequence, so we push this
cost into the time sampling function 'arch_bpf_timed_may_goto'. This is
a JIT-specific wrapper around bpf_check_timed_may_goto which returns us
the count to store into the stack through BPF_REG_AX. All caller-saved
registers (r0-r5) are guaranteed to remain untouched.

The loop can be broken by returning count as 0, otherwise we dispatch
into the function when the count drops to 0, and the runtime chooses to
refresh it (by returning count as BPF_MAX_TIMED_LOOPS) or returning 0
and aborting the loop on next iteration.

Since the check for 0 is done right after loading the count from the
stack, all subsequent cond_break sequences should immediately break as
well, of the same loop or subsequent loops in the program.

We pass in the stack_depth of the count (and thus the timestamp, by
adding 8 to it) to the arch_bpf_timed_may_goto call so that it can be
passed in to bpf_check_timed_may_goto as an argument after r1 is saved,
by adding the offset to r10/fp. This adjustment will be arch specific,
and the next patch will introduce support for x86.

Note that depending on loop complexity, time spent in the loop can be
more than the current limit (250 ms), but imposing an upper bound on
program runtime is an orthogonal problem which will be addressed when
program cancellations are supported.

The current time afforded by cond_break may not be enough for cases
where BPF programs want to implement locking algorithms inline, and use
cond_break as a promise to the verifier that they will eventually
terminate.

Below are some benchmarking numbers on the time taken per-iteration for
an empty loop that counts the number of iterations until cond_break
fires. For comparison, we compare it against bpf_for/bpf_repeat which is
another way to achieve the same number of spins (BPF_MAX_LOOPS). The
hardware used for benchmarking was a Sapphire Rapids Intel server with
performance governor enabled, mitigations were enabled.

+-----------------------------+--------------+--------------+------------------+
| Loop type                   | Iterations   |  Time (ms)   |   Time/iter (ns) |
+-----------------------------|--------------+--------------+------------------+
| may_goto                    | 8388608      |  3           |   0.36           |
| timed_may_goto (count=65535)| 589674932    |  250         |   0.42           |
| bpf_for                     | 8388608      |  10          |   1.19           |
+-----------------------------+--------------+--------------+------------------+

This gives a good approximation at low overhead while staying close to
the current implementation.

Amery Hung 4e4136c644 selftests/bpf: Test gen_pro/epilogue that generate kfuncs
Test gen_prologue and gen_epilogue that generate kfuncs that have not
been seen in the main program.

The main bpf program and return value checks are identical to
pro_epilogue.c introduced in commit 47e69431b5 ("selftests/bpf: Test
gen_prologue and gen_epilogue"). However, now when bpf_testmod_st_ops
detects a program name with prefix "test_kfunc_", it generates slightly
different prologue and epilogue: They still add 1000 to args->a in
prologue, add 10000 to args->a and set r0 to 2 * args->a in epilogue,
but involve kfuncs.

At high level, the alternative version of prologue and epilogue look
like this:

  cgrp = bpf_cgroup_from_id(0);
  if (cgrp)
          bpf_cgroup_release(cgrp);
  else
          /* Perform what original bpf_testmod_st_ops prologue or
           * epilogue does
           */

Since 0 is never a valid cgroup id, the original prologue or epilogue
logic will be performed. As a result, the __retval check should expect
the exact same return value.

Jason Xing fd93eaffb3 bpf: Prevent unsafe access to the sock fields in the BPF timestamping callback
The subsequent patch will implement BPF TX timestamping. It will
call the sockops BPF program without holding the sock lock.

This breaks the current assumption that all sock ops programs will
hold the sock lock. The sock's fields of the uapi's bpf_sock_ops
requires this assumption.

To address this, a new "u8 is_locked_tcp_sock;" field is added. This
patch sets it in the current sock_ops callbacks. The "is_fullsock"
test is then replaced by the "is_locked_tcp_sock" test during
sock_ops_convert_ctx_access().

The new TX timestamping callbacks added in the subsequent patch will
not have this set. This will prevent unsafe access from the new
timestamping callbacks.

Potentially, we could allow read-only access. However, this would
require identifying which callback is read-safe-only and also requires
additional BPF instruction rewrites in the covert_ctx. Since the BPF
program can always read everything from a socket (e.g., by using
bpf_core_cast), this patch keeps it simple and disables all read
and write access to any socket fields through the bpf_sock_ops
UAPI from the new TX timestamping callback.

Moreover, note that some of the fields in bpf_sock_ops are specific
to tcp_sock, and sock_ops currently only supports tcp_sock. In
the future, UDP timestamping will be added, which will also break
this assumption. The same idea used in this patch will be reused.
Considering that the current sock_ops only supports tcp_sock, the
variable is named is_locked_"tcp"_sock.

Alexander Lobakin 7cd1107f48 bpf, xdp: constify some bpf_prog * function arguments
In lots of places, bpf_prog pointer is used only for tracing or other
stuff that doesn't modify the structure itself. Same for net_device.
Address at least some of them and add `const` attributes there. The
object code didn't change, but that may prevent unwanted data
modifications and also allow more helpers to have const arguments.

Yonghong Song a76ab5731e bpf: Find eligible subprogs for private stack support
Private stack will be allocated with percpu allocator in jit time.
To avoid complexity at runtime, only one copy of private stack is
available per cpu per prog. So runtime recursion check is necessary
to avoid stack corruption.

Current private stack only supports kprobe/perf_event/tp/raw_tp
which has recursion check in the kernel, and prog types that use
bpf trampoline recursion check. For trampoline related prog types,
currently only tracing progs have recursion checking.

To avoid complexity, all async_cb subprogs use normal kernel stack
including those subprogs used by both main prog subtree and async_cb
subtree. Any prog having tail call also uses kernel stack.

To avoid jit penalty with private stack support, a subprog stack
size threshold is set such that only if the stack size is no less
than the threshold, private stack is supported. The current threshold
is 64 bytes. This avoids jit penality if the stack usage is small.

A useless 'continue' is also removed from a loop in func
check_max_stack_depth().

Linus Torvalds 440b652328 Merge tag 'bpf-next-6.12' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/bpf/bpf-next
Pull bpf updates from Alexei Starovoitov:

 - Introduce '__attribute__((bpf_fastcall))' for helpers and kfuncs with
   corresponding support in LLVM.

   It is similar to existing 'no_caller_saved_registers' attribute in
   GCC/LLVM with a provision for backward compatibility. It allows
   compilers generate more efficient BPF code assuming the verifier or
   JITs will inline or partially inline a helper/kfunc with such
   attribute. bpf_cast_to_kern_ctx, bpf_rdonly_cast,
   bpf_get_smp_processor_id are the first set of such helpers.

 - Harden and extend ELF build ID parsing logic.

   When called from sleepable context the relevants parts of ELF file
   will be read to find and fetch .note.gnu.build-id information. Also
   harden the logic to avoid TOCTOU, overflow, out-of-bounds problems.

 - Improvements and fixes for sched-ext:
    - Allow passing BPF iterators as kfunc arguments
    - Make the pointer returned from iter_next method trusted
    - Fix x86 JIT convergence issue due to growing/shrinking conditional
      jumps in variable length encoding

 - BPF_LSM related:
    - Introduce few VFS kfuncs and consolidate them in
      fs/bpf_fs_kfuncs.c
    - Enforce correct range of return values from certain LSM hooks
    - Disallow attaching to other LSM hooks

 - Prerequisite work for upcoming Qdisc in BPF:
    - Allow kptrs in program provided structs
    - Support for gen_epilogue in verifier_ops

 - Important fixes:
    - Fix uprobe multi pid filter check
    - Fix bpf_strtol and bpf_strtoul helpers
    - Track equal scalars history on per-instruction level
    - Fix tailcall hierarchy on x86 and arm64
    - Fix signed division overflow to prevent INT_MIN/-1 trap on x86
    - Fix get kernel stack in BPF progs attached to tracepoint:syscall

 - Selftests:
    - Add uprobe bench/stress tool
    - Generate file dependencies to drastically improve re-build time
    - Match JIT-ed and BPF asm with __xlated/__jited keywords
    - Convert older tests to test_progs framework
    - Add support for RISC-V
    - Few fixes when BPF programs are compiled with GCC-BPF backend
      (support for GCC-BPF in BPF CI is ongoing in parallel)
    - Add traffic monitor
    - Enable cross compile and musl libc

Martin KaFai Lau 169c31761c bpf: Add gen_epilogue to bpf_verifier_ops
This patch adds a .gen_epilogue to the bpf_verifier_ops. It is similar
to the existing .gen_prologue. Instead of allowing a subsystem
to run code at the beginning of a bpf prog, it allows the subsystem
to run code just before the bpf prog exit.

One of the use case is to allow the upcoming bpf qdisc to ensure that
the skb->dev is the same as the qdisc->dev_queue->dev. The bpf qdisc
struct_ops implementation could either fix it up or drop the skb.
Another use case could be in bpf_tcp_ca.c to enforce snd_cwnd
has sane value (e.g. non zero).

The epilogue can do the useful thing (like checking skb->dev) if it
can access the bpf prog's ctx. Unlike prologue, r1 may not hold the
ctx pointer. This patch saves the r1 in the stack if the .gen_epilogue
has returned some instructions in the "epilogue_buf".

The existing .gen_prologue is done in convert_ctx_accesses().
The new .gen_epilogue is done in the convert_ctx_accesses() also.
When it sees the (BPF_JMP | BPF_EXIT) instruction, it will be patched
with the earlier generated "epilogue_buf". The epilogue patching is
only done for the main prog.

Only one epilogue will be patched to the main program. When the
bpf prog has multiple BPF_EXIT instructions, a BPF_JA is used
to goto the earlier patched epilogue. Majority of the archs
support (BPF_JMP32 | BPF_JA): x86, arm, s390, risv64, loongarch,
powerpc and arc. This patch keeps it simple and always
use (BPF_JMP32 | BPF_JA). A new macro BPF_JMP32_A is added to
generate the (BPF_JMP32 | BPF_JA) insn.
